I'm leaving on a jet plane...

Technically WE are leaving on a jet plane. Bright and early tomorrow morning. We haven't had an actual family vacation, so this is our first and hopefully not our last. In the past, we have either gone places with MJ's family, or we go to Iowa to visit mine. This time we are on our own. MJ has friends getting married this weekend in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, so we are packing up the family and taking a trip out West. We will be enjoying the mountains, national parks, and hopefully coming across some wildlife. (Grandma Patty says "Watch out for the bears, they are hungry this year in Yellowstone!" Will do Mom, don't worry!) Hope to have lots of pictures and stories to tell really soon! See you all next week!

Nasty Nightstand

I bought this nightstand for Madison at a yard sale, and it is nasty.
I mean really nasty!

It is dirty! It is stinky! And I think at $7, I may have over paid for it.
I am just praying I can clean it up.
Because I love these legs!

So this has become my new best friend.

Not bad so far.
There is no way that I will finish this before we leave on vacation.
Hopefully I finish it before she turns 18!

House Rules

I love this.

Jen @ Notes from the Heartland did a tutorial on how she made this cute list of house rules.
I am not at all artistic or crafty, but I decided to try it out. It couldn't be any worse than this...

So when I trash picked found this cabinet door
I turned it into this

It is not as pretty as Jen's, but I like it.
What do you think?

I'm an adult

Sometimes I act like it.
Today, while making the girls their usual lunch of this....
I decided, that since I am not under the age of 6, I should make myself something different.
So I had my new favorite summer lunch. PB&T!
So grown up, don't you think?!?

Thanks Aunt Corinn!

MJ's sister came over for my birthday dinner last night. It is always great to have her drop by since she is back in Philly. The girls love her and she loves them right back! But when she showed up last night with this present for me...
I knew why I married her brother! Just Kidding.
Inside this pretty little box was a beautiful thing.
A chocolate cupcake with OREO cream frosting.
That was all mine!
You see, she brought these cute little lollipops for the girls
so I didn't have to share!

Time to party!

It is my birthday today. I am officially 28. I am celebrating tonight with my favorite people; MJ, my girls, and maybe Aunt Corinn if she can make it. I don't cook on my birthday so we are ordering in a stuffed cheese steak pizza from Pat's (it's my favorite) and having a little ice cream cake for dessert. Not a bad way to top off a great year and look forward to an even better one.

New Projects

Since it is August, and summer is almost over, I feel the need to start some projects. That way, I can say I did something around here this summer.
Here is what I am working on...
It is an old end table/nightstand I bought at a yard sale for Madison's new "Big Girl" room. It really needs some work, but I think it will be really cute when I am finished with it.

I am also looking for something to replace this...
It is so not my style. What was I thinking?

Here is an idea of what I would like to hang there...
I love her rules and they all apply here, especially the first one!
She has a really cute blog, and she is from Iowa!

So wish me luck! I will try and keep you updated on the projects.

Tomatoe Pie

If you have plenty of tomatoes laying around this year...
You should try making a Tomatoe Pie.
An old Houston neighbor suggested it, and he was definatly right. Delicious! Thanks Gregg!
This is a quick easy weeknight meal.
First I pre-baked a frozen pie crust for 8-10 minutes.
Then I added some onions I had sauteed in a skillet.
I topped the onions with sliced tomatoes.
Then I mixed up some mayo, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese.
I spread that mixture on top of the tomatoes and baked for 25-30 minutes.

Unfortunately, it was so good, everyone ate it before I could take a picture of it.
Maybe we will have to eat this again so I can get a finished picture.

Great night for baseball

MJ has been busy lately. Work is really really busy. Which is definitely an answer to prayer. It is great for him and really great for the company. Not so great in the amount of sleep he gets, but with the current economy, he isn't complaining. One of the perks you get when you work like a dog for a small company is occasionally you get thrown the company Phillies tickets.

Ok... that photo misrepresents our seats...
There, that's better. Ten rows back behind the catcher.
It was a beautiful night in Philadelphia and despite the loss, it was a great game. There was a waitress to bring us food and drinks and a bar inside that stays open late.
We had a great time with one of MJs friends. Even Aunt Corinn came by to check out the seats and say hello.  Don't be offended by the fingers below, its the Jordan sign of affection. I swear!

Yard Sale

Im finally getting around to having a yard sale today. You can read more about my last try here. My MIL is coming down and bringing a few items to sell as well. Hoping for a great turnout because it looks to be a beautiful day.

A big THANK YOU to Grandma and Grandpa J for watching the girls while MJ and I head for the ballpark tonight. More on that later.

I am a corn snob

I admit it. I am a corn snob and I am turning my family into corn snobs with me. You see, here in New Jersey they sell this stuff at the grocery store. It looks like corn but when you open it, it looks like this...
They call it Jersey Corn. Its white, bland, and kind of nasty.

However, some days when we go to the store, we get lucky and come home with this.

Delicious sweet bi-color corn!
We usually do the happy dance while picking out our corn. The other people look at us like we are crazy but I don't care. I'm from Iowa. I was raised this way.... with good tasting corn. So if you are reading this and enjoying some of that delicious Iowa bi-color corn this summer, think of me and ship me some would ya!?!
